Sorry, this video does not show the wash action. This is most likely the first time ever that this 1949 GE Electric Sink Dishwasher has ever been fully operated. When I brought it back to West Peoria, Illinois from Massachusetts on May 1, 2009, it still had some partial decals still attached to the Sink and Dishwasher Lid. This machine originated somewhere in Pennsylvania. Speculation is all I have to go on. When I picked this machine up, it was missing the original drain stopper and the original water valve. I believe that this Electric Sink sat in an Appliance Store’s inventory for some time. And when a spare drain stopper and water valve was needed for another machine in the field, they were cannibalized from this machine. Time passed, perhaps into the early to late 1950′s before someone ventured into the appliance store in PA, and bought this Electric Sink to be used in a summer cabin, or similar. The new owners stored the machine in a heated building, and there it sat – never to be installed in its intended location. It was never used, never run through a complete cycle. The shipping support was still attached underneath the motor. Jump ahead to 2007. The machine is placed up for sale, and a collector from Massachusetts bought it. For two more years, it sat in a heated basement. I was researching the automaticwasher.org website in March, when I found a discussion and photos of this brand new, never installed Electric Sink. I wrote to the current owner and he agreed

A quick video I made with my phone before sending this off for sale on eBay.

This file is a combination of photos and a video of the first “Dry” test of a 1950 Homart Electric Sink Dishwasher. These machines were sold by Sears, Roebuck and Company. This video captures the sounds of this dishwasher as it steps through a dish washing cycle. The 45 minute cycle has been edited significantly to reduce boredom for the viewer. As “Wet” tests are made, additional videos will be uploaded. If you have any knowledge when this machine was built, I would appreciate hearing from you. The Timer Box is stamped “Rebuilt Mar 1961″. I’m only estimating that this machine was built in 1950. Sears introduced the Homart Dishwashers in 1949, and I have seen this same Electric Sink listed in a 1952 Sear catalog and associated with the Kenmore name. Happy Viewing!

This video shows a 9 minute edited version of the full 45 minute cycle for the Homart Electric Sink Dishwasher. This dishwasher came from the town of North Egremont, Massachusetts, and was trucked to West Peoria, Illinois on May 1, 2009. Sears introduced the Homart Dishwasher line in 1949, and were sold most likely into the early to mid-1950′s. I’m estimating this machine to have been built in 1950, until a more accurate date can be determined. The Model Number is 787.48, the Serial Number is 16908.

This Habitat for Humanity “deconstruction” video shows the steps to easily and quickly remove a kitchen sink (bathroom sink is similar) along with a dishwasher. Stainless steel sinks require the removal of numerous clips under the lip. Both stainless and porcelain sinks require a thin putty knife for cutting the silicone caulking. The tools needed are: crescent wrench, hammer, stiff putty knife, flat & phillips screwdrivers, { optional tools: wire cutters, hack saw } The estimated time to remove the sink, with disposal attached, is 5 minutes. The estimated time to remove the dishwasher is 3-5 minutes. (If the disposal and collar are to be removed separately, the additional time required is ~4 minutes.)
