In my opinion the dishwasher is one of the greatest modern inventions that a home could have today. Let me start by saying that I grew up in a very old house that had no dishwasher and I had to wash all of my dishes by hand. This never seemed like too big of a deal simply because my family and I were totally used to it. Depending on how lazy people in our home got, the dishes could be a simple task or a long drawn out chore that no one wanted to deal with as at times my brothers would simply let their dishes pile up. I moved out when I was 18 years old in to an apartment that had a dishwasher, now mind you I have never even used one before so I had no clue as to how it worked and therefore, instead of making the attempt to learn, I simply continued to wash the dishes by hand. Now the apartment that I lived in was very small and so the the dishwasher was an 18 inch dishwasher. One of my friends came by for dinner one night and when dinner was finished proceeded to help with the clean up. When they saw that I was washing my dishes by hand and not using the dishwasher they were very confused, “Is it broken?”, They wondered. When I explained my situation my friend laughed and then demonstrated to me how to use the 18 inch dishwasher.
I was so surprised at just how simple it was! The dishwasher made cleaning the dishes such a simple task that I could not believe it! From that point on I was completely hooked. I have since moved in to a much larger apartment but instead of getting a 24 inch dishwasher like many other people with more room do, I still continued to use an 18 inch dishwasher.
I love 18 inch dishwashers, they do the trick and take up less room making for a more comfortable kitchen. They are more narrow then the 24 inch dishwashers by 6 inches and they can still hold a decent sized load of dishes.
